DOT Issues Warning About Roads Buckling in the Heat

The DOT is warning drivers to be on the lookout for impediments on the roadways during the heat wave.

The chances are increased for road buckling over the next few days.

In the winter, roads contract in the cold and in the summer they expand and that causes them to break.

'There are a lot of different factors," explained Mike Pyritz of WISDOT. "There is heat. The duration of the heat is a factor. The amount of direct sunlight can be a factor. The amount of traffic that goes over can be factors also."

The DOT relies on drivers to report buckling.

You can call 511.

But if it's a serious hazard call 911.
