Details released in Waukesha County officer-involved shooting

WAUKESHA -- A Waukesha County sheriff's deputy is on administrative leave after firing on a man sitting in a car on Hillview Dr. in the Town of Vernon.

Waukesha County Sheriff Dan Trawicki says deputies responded to a well being check around 7:38 p.m. on June 2, 2014. A woman was concerned when her boyfriend hadn't returned to their home in Big Bend. Approximately 40 minutes later deputies found the 52-year-old male sitting in the driver's seat of a car on Hillview Dr. in the Town of Vernon.

Deputies observed the man had been drinking and sustained a head injury prior to their arrival. One of the three deputies on scene believed the 52-year-old man made a motion that put him at risk, and fired upon the man. The man was shot in his left forearm.

Sheriff Trawicki could not say how the man posed a danger to the deputies.

The 52-year-old man is being treated at Froedtert Hospital.
