NWS says EF-0 tornado touched down in Deerfield

The strong to severe complex of storms that produced a weak tornado in Dane county has been analyzed by the NWS.  An EF-0 tornado was on the ground for a total of 4 minutes and quickly lifted after 0.7 miles.  The maximum winds were 80 mph.  The damage width was only 25 yards.

How does this compare to the average Wisconsin tornado?  Take a look at the stats above.  The Deerfield, WI tornado was considerably weaker than what the state usually records.

The Deerfield, WI tornado pushes the 2018 total to just 7.  Wisconsin averages 23 tornadoes a year, so we are well below normal as we approach the end of the summer.  Over the last 5 years, 2017 was the only year to hit the normal mark.
