GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) – A Greenfield gas station is the latest victim of thieves getting away with stolen lottery tickets.
Surveillance video shows a woman distracting a store clerk by saying a toilet is clogged in the women’s bathroom while a man goes behind the counter and steals $600 in scratch-offs.
Police say the pair have also stolen hundreds of tickets at gas stations in Waukesha, Racine, and Washington Counties using a similar scenario. It raises concerns for store owner Paul Sidhu.
“I hope these kinds of things don’t happen to anybody. It’s not safe. It’s too scary to work at a place like this,” said Sidhu.
The Wisconsin Lottery says the couple will not be hitting the jackpot. They say stolen tickets are flagged and not paid out.
Police believe they know who the thieves are. There is no word yet on if they’ve been arrested.
