Corn maze spreads 'anti-bullying' message to others

ATKINS, Iowa (KCRG/CNN) -- One Benton County, Iowa farm wants to put out a message on anti-bullying, especially among middle and high school students.

Bloomsbury Farm has done a number of different themes for their corn maze from Charlie Brown, to Willie Nelson and Al Roker, but this year they've created an anti-bullying corn maze.

This corn maze spans 10 acres with an anti-bullying sign planted in the middle. Kids and adults can get lost in the giant maze and along the way read messages about stopping bullying. There are also other signs and benches located around the farm with anti-bullying pictures.

Jessica Petersen's parents own the farm and she said she came up with the anti-bullying theme with her mother to help spread the word and stop bullying.

"I believe that the environment that you're in and what you're exposed to can really teach people a message. We do have a lot of school tours out there each year, so just like having kids read them and just like get the message to them to be kind," said Petersen, who is now a manager of the farm.

Over the weekend, students from Kennedy High School attended Bloomsbury's Bullying Prevention kickoff. Students from the high school talked to other kids at the farm about the importance of spreading kindness and being a good friend.

Bloomsbury Farm is open now until October 31 for people to come out and see the anti-bullying corn maze. They're open Monday - Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
