SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Across Wisconsin, everybody is happy to be back under the lights and playing football once again. Wauwatosa West and Brookfield East had no intention of easing into the season. They had a week one conference clash on this turf, a game worthy of the CBS 58 Game of the Week.

Brookfield East wins 25 - 6 and the defending division two state champs start the season 1-0.

“Opener I thought we thought well, we did a lot of good things, but we still have a lot of things to work on too.  Offensively, defensively, including myself I know I could do things better,” says Brookfield East running back Caleb Wright.

”I think we got a turnover there early, they got a three and out and got some momentum, then a fumble and a punt return and we were able to get a safety pretty early. So we were able to generate some momentum early which always helps,” says Brookfield East Head Coach Ben Farley.

CBS 58 also caught up with a few other schools around the area.

The Catholic Memorial Crusaders marched to a state title last season and hope to kick 2017 off the right way against Mukwonago. The Crusaders take it 48-9.

In an unusual meeting, powerhouses Marquette and Arrowhead go head to head. The Warhawks win 23-16.

Franklin got a taste of state runner up last year and it seems like they have some unfinished business to tend to as they host Waterford.  The Franklin Sabers win 55-0.

In Plymouth, the Eisenhower Lions win 28-27 against the Panthers.
