Report due on housing starts

WASHINGTON (AP) -- There's been a steady stream of positive news on housing lately.

The Commerce Department today reports on October housing starts, with analysts looking for a decline in new building.

That weakness, if reported, would stand in contrast to the reading Monday from the National Association of Home Builders. The trade group said confidence among the nation's home builders had risen to its highest level in six and a-half years.

In addition, the National Association of Realtors reported Monday that sales of previously-occupied homes rose 2.1 percent in October. The pace of sales was up 11 percent from a year earlier.

Also today, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke speaks in New York.
