8 Month-Old Baby Girl Drowns in Bathtub

The Medical Examiner’s Office investigated the apparent drowning death of an 8-month old girl infant in the 9200 block of North 75 St, according to the autopsy report.

A mother and two infants lived in the home.

The mother put Tater Tots in the oven and then went to give her two babies a bath.

The mother took the older child out to dry him and change his diaper.

Once the mother did the smoke detector went off in the kitchen and she went to shut it off.

She was then fanning the smoke and at the time realized that she had left the infant in the bathtub with the water running.

The mother grabbed the baby and tried CPR.

She then called 911.

The baby was pronounced dead on 10/20/15 at 2:30 p.m.

When police arrived on the scene the tub was empty.

The apartment was described by police as unclean and having a broken toddler's bed in the bedroom instead of a crib. There was a tray of tater tots on top of the oven but did not appeared burned.

Plates of old food were on the floor in the bathroom.

An alcohol bottle was noted in the apartment but the mother said she had not consumed any alcohol.

The father of the child was incarcerated.

The final cause of death is waiting for an autopsy report.
