77-year-old man dies after tree falls on him at Old World Wisconsin

EAGLE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department confirms to CBS 58 that a 77-year-old man volunteering at Old World Wisconsin in Eagle died on Wednesday.

According to authorities, the man was cutting down a tree when it fell on him and killed him.

Old World Wisconsin released a statement to CBS 58 saying:

“We are heartbroken at the loss of one of our own. All of us at Old World Wisconsin express our sincere condolences to the family during this extremely difficult time."

The victim, Richard Berner, is being remembered as a helpful neighbor who loved to hunt and work in the woods. He was a volunteer at Old World Wisconsin for approximately 17 years and his family says he died doing one of his favorite things, cutting down trees. 

Funeral services for Richard will be held on Monday, December 4 at 12:00 noon at St. John's Lutheran Church in Watertown.
