30th Annual Torch Run Kicks Off

Hundreds of local police officers will run and bike today to Stevens Point to kick off the annual Special Olympics Wisconsin Opening Games.

The annual Torch Run is taking place in more than 100 communities across our state, including Waukesha.

This is the 30th year they'll run the final leg together carrying the torch, ignited with the Flame of Hope, to kick off the Special Olympics Wisconsin State Summer Games Opening Ceremony in Stevens Point. That will take place tonight with games taking place all weekend long.

The Torch Run is expected to begin around 7 this morning at the Waukesha County Courthouse, and at the Milwaukee Art Museum downtown.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is also scheduled to participate.
