27-year-old man injured after trying to car surf on stranger's vehicle

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) -- A 27-year-old Appleton man was injured and could face charges after he tried to car surf on a stranger's vehicle early Monday morning, according to Appleton Police.

At about 5:50 a.m Monday, September 11, 2017, the Appleton Police, and Fire Departments responded to the 600 block of W. Lawrence Street for a man with a head injury. Witnesses told police the man was riding on the hood of a vehicle before ending up in the roadway.

A 27-year-old man from Appleton was found injured at the scene. He was intoxicated, uncooperative and told officers he was attempting to surf on the hood of the vehicle, police said.

When he became dislodged he hit his head on the roadway and was brought to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of that vehicle, a 33-year-old Menasha resident, told officers he was driving southbound in the 300 block of S. Badger Avenue when a man with a skateboard jumped onto the hood of his vehicle. The driver, who did not know the man on his vehicle, yelled at the individual to get off.

When the unwanted individual refused to get off the hood and raised a skateboard in a threatening manner, the driver told officers he started to drive to the Appleton Police Department. After turning from Memorial Drive to W. Lawrence Street, the driver said the unknown male jumped from the moving vehicle. The driver continued to the police department to report the incident, police said.

The 27-year-old male was discharged from the hospital. Officers will be referring him to the Outagamie County District Attorney’s Office for Disorderly Conduct and Damage to Property.
