22-year-old dies after kayak flips over on Geneva Lake

A 22-year-old man is dead following a water rescue on Geneva Lake this evening.

According to the Lake Geneva Fire Department, crews were dispatched for a possible drowning offshore near 1724 West Main Street around 6:30 p.m.

Two kayaks had flipped over. A male kayaker assisted the female kayaker who made it safely to shore.

The male kayaker then went back into the water where he went under and did not resurface.

Rapid search was initiated and several crews from northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin assisted. 

The victim was located an hour after the search began. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
