2 dead, 3 injured following Rock County crash involving semi

CLINTON, Wis. (WSAW) -- Two people are dead and three others hurt after an overnight crash in Rock County.

A press release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation says it happened 3:00 a.m. on Interstate 43 southbound near Clinton.

Investigators say a southbound SUV was stopped or moving slightly in the right lane with its hazard lights on. A southbound semi did not the see SUV and struck the rear end of the vehicle. The semi over-corrected and rolled on its side. The trailer landed in the right lane, and also partially blocked the left lane.

The driver in the semi was not injured. Three people in the SUV were seriously injured and transported to hospitals.

Investigators say shortly after the crash, a southbound pickup truck struck the trailer in the right lane. Two people in the pickup truck were killed.

Clinton Police, the Rock County Sheriff Department, Beloit Police, Clinton Fire and EMS, Turtle Fire, Beloit Fire, and South Beloit Fire assisted at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation.
