Local college hoops teams gear up
UW-Milwaukee and Marquette are in full-scale preparations for the upcoming basketball season.
MILWAUKEE - It's almost tip-off time for the 2009-10 seasons of UW-Milwaukee and Marquette men's basketball. The Panthers already have one exhibition game under their belts - a 74-72 win over NAIA Cardinal Stritch, in a game made closer because of injuries to top Panther players Tone Boyle and Ricky Franklin. Coach Rob Jeter says his team's much bigger this year and is still looking for the right combinations of players on the floor before the team's season opener against Concordia next week.
As for Marquette, the Golden Eagles fly straight into their exhibition season this weekend, with MSOE paying a visit on Saturday. Coach Buzz Williams has spent a busy offseason getting an almost entirely new group of players focused on the season ahead.
