Swine flu vaccines stolen
Truck filled with vaccines taken after clinic wrapped for day
A refrigerated truck filled with more than 800 doses of the swine flu vaccine was stolen, then recovered Thursday night.
The truck was stolen around 8:00 P.M. after the swine flu clinic at Sarah Scott Middle School in Milwaukee wrapped up. Police say the driver left the truck running to keep the refrigerator on while he went into the school to pick up leftover medical supplies.
Police found the truck about a half hour later at 12th St. and Vine St. Police say they it appeared to be a crime of opportunity because there was no indication of what kind of cargo was inside the truck.
The vaccines included a combination of the nasal and shots. Health officials say they will not be able to use those vaccines for fear of tampering and spoilage. The Milwaukee Health Department still has 2500 vaccines remaining for Friday's swine flu clinic at South Division High School.
