MILWAUKEE-Vikki Vance couldn't believe what her daughter on the other line of the phone was telling her; an officer went on a shooting rampage at Ft. Hood where she's currently serving.

 

Private Robin Propes is a cook on the Texas base.

 

She wanted to be sure she reached out to her mom before the images of the carnage hit the television.

 

The suspected shooter originally reported to be among the 12 dead, was actually hospitalized late Thursday night.

 

Two other soldiers who were brought into custody have since been released.

 

Private Propes is doing fine, but was on lockdown when she phoned her mother.
