Milwaukee County holds off on layoffs
On Friday, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker announced a suspension of worker layoffs.
Walker said on Thursday that nearly 200 county workers would be layed off to help balance the budget.
That decision was delayed during an emergency budget meeting on Friday. losses. In the meeting department heads offered ways to save the $600,000 to $900,000 needed to save the positions. They eventually came up with a potential savings of $523,000.
County Supervisors will now meet with the Scott Walker weekly to offer new options to save money, such as more furlough days and 35 hour work weeks.
Walker stresses the issue isn't over, and there could be layoffs in the future.
