Head-on collision takes the life of middle school teacher
WEST BEND -- 34 year-old Rachel Olson would always greet her middle school students with a smile every morning, but today her seat was empty.
Olson was killed Friday night in a head-on collision on Highway 144 north of Elm Tree Drive in Washington County. A 60 year-old woman in the S-U-V was also killed.
Although the accident remains under investigation, it appears as though Olson may have fallen asleep at the wheel and swerved into the opposite lane and hit the S-U-V head-on.
Olson's father says rescue crews on the scene told him alcohol was not believed to be involved. His daughter was a 6th grade teacher at Badger Middle School in West Bend and had worked for the district for nine years.
Counselors will be at the school through Thursday to help students and faculty deal with the tragic loss.
Olson was a mother of two.
