Bud Norris made the most of his major league debut, shutting down the Cardinals offense en route to a 2-0 win for the Astros. Norris (1-0) lasted 7 innings, giving up only 2 hits and ringing up 5 strikeouts.

His counterpart, Adam Wainwright (12-7) pitched a strong 7 innings as well. But Miguel Tejada’s 4th inning RBI infield single was all that Norris needed. Tejada finished the game 2 for 3.

Houston added a second run in the 7th when Michael Bourn’s double plated Ivan Rodriguez.

The Astros’ bullpen shut down the Cardinals in the final frames. St. Louis managed only one hit off of the 3 Houston relievers.

The Cards fall to 58-50, tied with the Cubs atop the NL Central standings.

The Astros improve to 52-53, and move into third place, .5 games ahead of the Brewers.
