Education Secretary announces education grant
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced a $7
million federal grant program to help train laid-off autoworkers and other unemployed people for a new career.

Duncan announced the program today at the Milwaukee Area Technical College. He said it will provide initial funds for community colleges and other organizations that help adults develop new job skills.

The program will provide services like tutoring, academic and career counseling.  It could also pay for child care, transportation or textbooks for adults returning to school.

Duncan picked the Milwaukee community college to make his announcement because of retraining programs that the school already has in place.
