local high schooler proves hard work pays off
HARTFORD -- A local high school senior, diagnosed with a major blood disorder, has beaten the odds.
17 year-old Joe Pendergast is the captain of both the football and basketball teams at Hartford Union High School.
Back in August, after a hard block during a football game, his arm began to swell and turned purple. Joe was told he wouldn't be able to play any sports for the rest of his senior year.
Despite the grim diagnosis, Joe never gave up and practiced everyday. He also cheered on his team at every game from the bench.
All his hard work and dedication paid off after doctor's gave him the go-ahead to play again.
Joe played basketball for the first time this season tonight, and by the way, his team won.
