Michigan beats Wisconsin 3-2 in Showcase

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Bryan Hogan wasn't perfect on Saturday, but he didn't have to be to lead the Michigan Wolverines past Wisconsin in the final round of the College Hockey Showcase.
One night after beating Minnesota 6-0 in the first round, the Michigan goalie had 39 saves as the Wolverines defeated the Wisconsin Badgers 3-2. Michigan scored goals shorthanded, on the power play and at even strength.
Hogan earned both Showcase victories for Michigan (7-7-0), which improved to 20-13-1 all-time at the Showcase.
Hogan was busy all night as the Badgers (8-5-1) outshot Michigan 41-35. Wisconsin's Blake Geoffrion scored his ninth goal of the season in the second period to tie it at 1-1 and Derek Stepan's goal late in the third period made in 3-2.
Wisconsin outshot the Wolverines 12-5 in a scoreless first period. Matt Rust finally broke the deadlock, netting a goal on the power play at 6:02 of the second period.
Luke Glendening then scored shorthanded at 18:05 of the period to break a 1-1 tie and give Michigan the lead for good. The Wolverines also scored shorthanded in Friday's win. It was their first two shorthanded goals of the season.
Louie Caporusso scored the game-winner for Michigan at 11:52 of the third period.
Scott Gudmundson had 32 saves for the Badgers, who went 1-1 in the two Showcase games.
