WAUWATOSA--Police say Victor De La Huerta-Perez flew through a flashing red light at State and 70th Streets early Sunday morning about 2:20 a.m. and seemed confused when police pulled him over.
Victor kept getting out of his car, even when police repeatedly told him to get back in. When asked, "Why were you getting out of your car when I stopped you?" he replied, "I'll tell you. I'm an idiot."
During a field sobriety test, Victor appeared very drunk. Police measured his blood alcohol level at three times the legal limit.
During booking, police say Victor later revealed he left his two daughters -- a four-year-old and 9-month-old -- in an unlocked house alone.
"I was thinking while they would nap for half an hour and I would be able to go out," he explained at the police station.
The police report says the mother left the girls with their father when she went to work at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
When an officer asked if Victor's your plan was to wait until his daughters were sleeping "so you could go for a little bit and come back and everything will be okay," Victor answered, "Pretty much."
The police report says Victor's wife Monica had no idea he would leave his daughters alone, and he now faces child neglect charges.
The police report says Victor told officers it was his first time trying to leave and go out while the girls slept, to see how it worked out.
A family member said Victor is normally a good, responsible father and Monica is a wonderful, caring mother and nurse, but the family knows Victor has a problem with alcohol.
