Two girls rescued from muddy ravine
BAYSIDE -- Monday morning's heavy rain hamped the rescue of two girls trapped in a muddy ravine.
Wrapped in a blanket, one of the girls was taken from the scene after an hour-long ordeal. She was with another girl attending a summer camp at the Schlitz Audubon Center, when the friend injured her knee. It took North Shore firefighters about 40 minutes to reach the pair because of the rain-soaked terrain along the bluff. "We used a rope rescue team just to assist because of the slippery conditions. We had deep mud and very slippery and treacherous conditions down the ravine," said Deputy Chief Andrew Harris. The injured girl was taken to the hospital and is going to be okay. |
