WEST ALLIS---Close to 100 units took part in the annual Independence Day parade in West Allis on Tuesday night.

While July 4th is the official holiday and date on the Declaration of Independence, history tells us it was July 2nd when the document was actually approved and the vote was taken.

CBS 58's Mark McGinnis and Michele McCormack were honored to ride along with local school groups, veterans and other patriots through downtown West Allis.

This year's theme was "Let American Pride Sparkle and Shine."

As is tradition, there was a post parade community celebration at Veterans Park.

On Wednesday the Breakfast of Champions, honoring West Allis Veterans, will be held at 8:00 am at Centennial Park Plaza at City Hall.

Ticket cost is $10.

Also on Wednesday events at Wisconsin State Fair Park include the Grandstand Show at 8:00 pm,
featuring the Kids from Wisconsin, and the Fireworks Spectacular at 9:30 pm.
