150 mile bike ride...any tips??
Strategy to ride 150 miles-HELP!!
A year ago, a good friend of mine told me she was riding her bike all the way from Milwaukee to Madison for the Bike MS Best Dam Bike Ride, and I'm not going to lie-part of me thought she was nuts.
And here I am, a year later- just as nuts as her, as we embark on the ride together this year!
I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Excited to wake up on Saturday, August 6 with a new challenge and endeavor ahead of me. Nervous because I really don't know what it's like to ride 150 miles...or anything even close!
Three hour is about the longest that I've done so far, but I hear it takes about six hours to ride 75 miles a day (the ride is split into two days: Saturday is Milwaukee to Whitewater and Sunday is Whitewater to Madison). Being a distance runner, I'm not so worried about the endurance as I am the right leg muscles to work for that long. If you have any suggestions or strategies you'd like to pass along to me, please email me at email@example.com, or send me a message on my CBS 58 Facebook page!
When I complete this, I will have done something I never thought I'd do. A marathon was always a distance challenge I saw myself doing someday and never thought about a bike ride this long, but the cause is just too good to pass up.
All the money raised from pledges for the ride goes to the National MS Society. Before I moved to Wisconsin, I didn't know anyone with Multiple Sclerosis. Since I've been here, I've met a number of people who have the disease-some have it easier than others, and they all deserve to have their MS cured one day. I hope my ride helps doctors get one step closer to that.
